HELPFUL INFORMATION AND RESOURCES

I have compiled a list of information and resources I have found incredibly helpful in both my practice and personal life. Please see below for information on DBT, EMDR, and my favorite books throughout the years.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is an evidenced based therapeutic treatment used to heal psychological trauma and alleviate symptoms related to emotional distress and disturbance. EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation (i.e. eye movement) to accelerate processing of traumatic events. The main goal of EMDR is to transform form the learned "belief" or "meaning" surrounding traumatic memories, reduce the associated level of disturbance, and increase empowerment.

Please read the attached articles and videos to learn more about the eight phases of treatment and what you can expect a session to look like.

What is DBT?

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is a skills based approach to alleviate symptoms for folks who experience emotions very intensely, have difficulty understanding emotions, trouble with interpersonal relationships, and experience distress often. DBT emphasizes the idea that two seemingly opposite ideas/feelings can exist at the same time, eliminating black and white thinking. DBT explores the acceptance of the reality of life and the pain it brings as well as exploring the ways we can change ineffective behavior and thought patterns.

When using a DBT informed approach, I follow the philosophy of dialectics as well as incorporating various skills when appropriate.
